Resident walks away from Palmer assisted living facility

PALMER, MI— Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post are asking the public for help with finding a woman missing from the Palmer area.

Troopers say Helen Kontio, 65, is a resident of the Marigold Assisted Living Facility. She was last seen outside the facility around 1 p.m. Monday.

Kontio is 5’4” and 195 pounds. She was wearing a blue and gold shirt, blue jean capri pants, white tennis shoes, and a dark blue jacket.

Officials say Kontio has cognitive and psychological issues. They believe she’s still in Marquette County.

Anyone who knows of her whereabouts is asked to call the Negaunee Post at 906-475-9922.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
