ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI— An 8-year-old boy missing in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park for more than 48-hours has been found alive.
Nante Niemi of Hurley, Wisconsin was camping with family when he was reported missing Saturday around 1 p.m. More than 150 search and rescue personnel from the Michigan State Police and various local agencies, nine K-9s, and volunteers scoured a roughly 40-square-mile area by foot, air, and water.
Police say Nante was found safe around 1:30 p.m. Central Monday about two miles from his family’s campsite. He had braved the elements by taking shelter under a log.
Officials say he is in good health and is with his family.
The Michigan State Police thanks all the volunteers and support services that assisted in finding Nante.
