Searchers find body of missing kayaker off Delta County shore

DELTA COUNTY, MI— The body of a missing kayaker has been found in Little Bay de Noc.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Sunday around 7 p.m. to the Stonington area on a report of a missing person. A 29-year-old downstate man had gone kayaking in Little Bay de Noc, but hadn’t returned.

Crews searched the water and land into the night. Around 2 a.m., the kayak was found upside down about a half mile offshore.

The search continued Monday and Tuesday. Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, the body of the missing kayaker was found in about 14 feet of water.

The identity of the man has not yet been released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
