Downstate man missing in Mackinac County found dead

BREVORT TOWNSHIP, MI— A man with dementia who was reported missing in Mackinac County has been found deceased.

Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post were notified last Thursday evening that a 59-year-old Westland, Michigan man had walked away from a home he’d been staying at in Brevort Township. Police were told the missing man had dementia.

Despite extensive search efforts, the man was found deceased on Friday. The cause of death is currently under investigation, but there’s no indication of foul play at this time.

The MSP thanks all who participated in the search efforts, including members of the MSP St. Ignace Post, MSP K9, MSP Aviation, and the Michigan DNR. They extend their deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
