Missing woman found deceased in Negaunee Township woods

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI— The body of a missing Marquette woman has been found in Negaunee Township.

Eileen Mandel, 69, was last seen leaving her residence Sunday around 5:30 p.m. in a white pickup truck. Her family said she may have been in an altered mental state.

Marquette Police say Tuesday around 8:50 p.m., the truck Mandel was driving was found on a two-track road in Negaunee Township. A search of the wooded area near the pickup was carried out. Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office discovered Mandel’s body at about 10:35 p.m.

Officials say the incident remains under investigation, but no foul play is suspected.

Also assisting in the incident were the Michigan State Police, Michigan DNR Conservation Officers, and UPHS-Marquette EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
