Marquette gets money to restore downtown facades

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette is one of three communities in the state to receive a façade restoration grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

Officials will award the $300,000 grant to the Downtown Development Authority Friday.

The Façade Restoration Initiative provides matching funds of up to 50 percent of façade restoration costs to DDAs, Main Street organizations, principal shopping districts, or local authorities.

Marquette DDA Executive Director Mona Lang says the funds will help with improvements to targeted properties. She says it will make a continuing positive impact on the downtown area.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
