Flagstar giving local nonprofits $90,000

MARQUETTE, MI--   Flagstar Bank is giving $5,000 checks to 18 nonprofit agencies in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin Tuesday. 

The donations come as part of the Flagstar Crafts Community initiative launched April 4.

Bank officials say Flagstar wanted to demonstrate the high value it places on community. It sought input from its branch managers to nominate local nonprofits for grants, and the community selected the winning recipients.

Local recipients include:

  • Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum—Marquette
  • Cole’s Foundation—Ironwood
  • UP Honor Flight—Escanaba
  • Just Believe—Gwinn
  • Simple Kindness for Youth—Houghton
  • Habitat for Humanity, Menominee River—Iron Mountain
  • Trico Opportunities—Iron River
  • UP Children’s Therapy—Ishpeming
  • 906 Adventure Team—Marquette
  • Marquette Symphony Orchestra—Marquette
  • River Cities Habitat for Humanity—Menominee
  • NMU Volunteer Center, Make a Difference Day—Marquette
  • Project Give—Stephenson
  • Bay Cliff Health Camp, Children’s Therapy and Wellness Center—Big Bay
  • DAR Boys and Girls—Marinette

Flagstar will award the checks Tuesday morning during a ceremony at its Washington Street branch in Marquette.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
