Emergency funding for veterans approved for two UP counties

MARQUETTE, MI--   Gogebic and Marquette counties are two of 12 in Michigan to receive money through the state’s new County Veteran Service Fund Emergency Relief Program.

A total of nearly $1.1 million has been approved. Veterans from wartime and peacetime can use the money to make home and vehicle repairs, pay medical expenses, and meet other emergent needs.

Marquette County is also participating in a grocery voucher program for veterans through the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency and Meijer.

The emergency assistance aims to help veterans hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For more information, vets can contact the Marquette County Department of Veterans Affairs at 906-485-1781 or the Gogebic County Veterans Office at 906-667-1110.
