Bessemer gets grant to eliminate blight

BESSEMER, MI--   The State Land Bank Authority and Michigan Department of Treasury have given a blight elimination grant to the city of Bessemer.

The $24,800 is meant to help remove vacant or abandoned structures in preparation for future developments. Officials say that will spur economic growth.

The Blight Elimination Grant program was made available to cities, villages, townships, counties or land banks for projects that pose an immediate public safety or health risk to the community.
