CALUMET, MI— The Bring Back Calumet initiative is raising funds to replace the roof on a historic building constructed in 1895.
The Houghton County Land Bank, Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance, and others are hoping to raise $10,000. The money will be used as a 10-percent matching grant to get $100,000 from the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office.
A new roof on the building will halt deterioration of the interior and a portion of the exterior. Officials would eventually redevelop it.
The 10-percent match must be raised by September 1. More information is available from the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance, at 906-482-6817.
