MARQUETTE, MI— Upper Peninsula residents can apply for assistance with their heating bills through a tax credit.
This year, $120 million is available to qualified homeowners and renters in Michigan through the Home Heating Credit. Last year, the average household received $216 from the Home Heating Credit benefit.
Those who get food assistance benefits who received a heating credit greater than $20 may also be eligible for an increase in those benefits.
In order to qualify, residents must be a homeowner or a renter with a contracted lease and meet income requirements. The deadline to apply is September 30.
