USDA funds to help Houghton County communities

HOUGHTON, MI— Several Houghton County entities are getting federal funding to improve infrastructure and help first responders.

The money comes through the USDA’s Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program.

Hancock is getting $25,100 to purchase a law enforcement vehicle.

The City of Houghton will receive nearly $24,000 to buy its own law enforcement vehicle and $58,800 to purchase a medium-sized excavator for the Public Works Department.

The Houghton County Road Commission is getting 53,600 to buy a pavement roller and asphalt soil gauges.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
