MSHDA awards Neighborhood Enhancement Program grants to UP groups

LANSING, MI— Two Upper Peninsula entities will receive grants from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s Neighborhood Enhancement Program.

The money will be used to supplement neighborhood housing initiatives that impact low-to-middle income communities. They include exterior rehabilitations and housing enhancements, neighborhood public amenity enhancements, and interior rehabilitations.

The City of Ironwood is getting $30,000, and the Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency is also getting $30,000.

Grants from this latest funding round must be used by December 31, 2023. A new funding round is anticipated to start accepting applications in August 2023.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
