UP projects included in next year's state budget

DELTA COUNTY, MI— The recently signed state budget for next year contains funding for two Delta County projects.

The Gladstone Senior Center is getting $505,000. The center serves not only as a gathering place for seniors, but also as a food bank and central hub for Meals on Wheels in northern Delta County.

With the investment from the state, the senior center can replace its aging roof and windows, restore kitchen facilities, and bring restrooms into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Stephenson Area Public Schools is getting $400,000 to resurface its track. Officials say cracks, uneven surfaces, and general wear and tear after years of use have begun to take their toll.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
