USDA Rural Development grants funds for Bates Township Hall relocation

Bates Township Hall in the 1800s

IRON RIVER, MI— The Bates Township Hall will be relocated and renovated, thanks to a
$250,000 grant from USDA Rural Development.

The investment was announced this week by Michigan State Director Dom Restuccia. USDA provided the funding through its Community Facilities program to the Bates Hall Preservation Society.

The hall’s foundation is deteriorating due to weather and the proximity to road traffic and runoff. The money will help build a new concrete basement foundation for the township hall, as well as additional facility layout improvements and a new porch.

The total project cost is $500,000, with the society providing $250,000.
