ESCANABA, MI— The Delta Area Transit Authority will share in $65 million in funding aimed at transforming public transportation in the state.

The Infrastructure Projects Authority Fund has awarded DATA $5,986,407. The money will be used to further the Delta County Mobility Transformation Initiative, which will extend service to all 14 townships, Escanaba, Gladstone, and Garden, while adding expanded evening and Saturday service.

The expansion will give more residents access to employment, healthcare, education, shopping, and regional destinations.

DATA also will be able to modernize its fleet and operations with low-emission vehicles, advanced scheduling and dispatch technology, artificial intelligence-enabled safety systems, and new mobile tools for riders.
