Copper Peak receives avalanche protection money

Copper Peak ski jump

IRONWOOD, MI— The Copper Peak ski jump in Gogebic County has received a federal grant to improve safety and provide avalanche protection at the site.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Copper Peak is getting more than $170,000 through the Rural Business Development Grants program. The money will be used to purchase and install an avalanche protection net system across the full surface of the concrete landing hill slab. Copper Peak is contributing $92,000 in matching funds to complete the project.

The safety equipment aims to help ensure ski jumping events continue to take place at Copper Peak and secure the economic activity that depends on it. The total project cost is $263,063.
