BARAGA COUNTY, MI— The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is getting a state Tribal Opioid Response grant for addiction services.
The nearly $300,000 allocation will allow the Tribe to staff a halfway house for those leaving inpatient treatment programs. Clients will primarily be KBIC tribal members who complete a minimum six-week residential treatment program at the New Day Treatment Center.
Traditional teachings and medicine will be used to support recovery.
The money comes from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. It’s a portion of a $36.4 million state opioid response grant MDHHS received from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
