Food the focus of next week's NMU Indigenous Perspectives Symposium

MARQUETTE, MI— NMU is hosting the 2025 Indigenous Perspectives Symposium on Food next week.

The event will bring together Indigenous knowledge keepers, tribal food sovereignty leaders and others to engage in deep dialogue and hands-on learning. The symposium aims to explore the living relationships between land, food, identity and resilience.

Events include a presentation on wild rice preservation, a decolonizing diet-inspired lunch, and a performance by the Woodland Sky Native American Dance Company.

The symposium takes place Thursday, October 23 at the Northern Center.
