No cell tower near Houghton school

HOUGHTON, MI--   Verizon has decided not to build a 75-foot cell phone tower near Houghton-Portage Elementary School.

Several parents spoke out against putting the tower 300 feet south of the building, saying its frequency fields could harm their children’s health.  A couple of pages created by parents against the tower were also put up on Facebook.

Verizon withdrew its application to build the tower at the school site last week.
