Community fund dispenses final round of grants

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette County Community Fund has released a list of projects that will receive $860,500 in grants. 

It’s the fourth and final round of financial contributions for the fund, which was created in 2012 as a partnership between Cliffs Natural Resources and the Eagle Mine.  Initially capitalized at $4 million, this round concludes the remaining fund balance.

Community groups and contribution amounts are as follows:

UPAWS                     $250,000

Trillium House       $200,000

Cliffs Shaft Mining Museum      $100,000

Ishpeming Senior Center             $100,000

Ishpeming Schools                          $50,000

Burns Landing       $45,500

Big Brothers/Big Sisters            $35,000

Upper Peninsula Luge Club       $35,000

L’Anse Schools      $25,000

Teaching Family Homes            $10,000

Women’s Center    $10,000

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
