Tech staging mock disaster Tuesday

HOUGHTON, MI--   Michigan Technological University is holding a disaster drill on campus Tuesday.

The purpose is to practice emergency response and cooperation between Tech and various agencies that would be involved in an actual situation.  Drill participants include MTU’s Department of Public Safety and Police Services, the university’s Incident Command Team, Houghton Police and Fire Departments, the Houghton County Sheriff and Emergency Management Office, UP Health System Portage, Aspirus Keweenaw, and Mercy Ambulance.

Tech officials say they don’t know when or where the mock disaster will occur.  They’ll find out when the Incident Command Team is called out, just as they would in a real disaster.
