Marquette Municipal Service Center builders honored

MARQUETTE, MI--   The design and construction companies for the new Marquette Municipal Service Center have been recognized for their work.

Engineering company Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber, Inc. was recently given the Engineering Merit Award for the $16.5 million project.

Gundlach Champion was also honored with the Build Michigan Award for the nearly 118,000 square-foot building. Negotiation delays between the city and Duke LifePoint forced the city to put a temporary hold on signing a contract with

GCI, stalling the project for eight months. Officials say GCI met the original scheduled completion date despite the delay, and had a zero-accident worksite.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new facility on August 11.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
