Horse checks out City of Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI— A horse found wandering around Negaunee on Sunday has been reunited with its owner.

City Police say they were notified around 1:30 p.m. the equine was walking east on West Water Street. It ambled towards US-41, headed north onto Croix Street, and headed towards Lakeview School. Officers found the horse at the intersection of Owaissa and Maas Streets. It was under the control of two citizens who were horse handlers.

The Ishpeming Police Department contacted the animal’s owner and brought them to the escapee. Officers then escorted the horse and owner out of town.

The owner said they were camping off Malton Road. They were getting ready to take their horses on the trails when something spooked the horse and it took off.

Police warn residents not to approach any large animals loose in the city unless they have experience with the animal. Horses and other animals can spook easily and possibly charge people if they start to panic.
