Two unidentified campers found deceased at Isle Royale National Park

ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK, MI— Two people have been found dead at Isle Royale National Park.

The National Park Service says Sunday around 4 p.m., rangers received two separate reports of two people found deceased at a remote backcountry campground.

Rangers hiked 11 miles overnight to the campground to assess the situation. They arrived early Monday morning and confirmed the deaths. The causes of death are unknown at this time.

Additional ground and aviation resources responded Monday.

The incident remains under investigation. More information will be released as it is made available.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
