ISHPEMING, MI— Emergency crews responded to the collapse of the Ishpeming VFW Hall Wednesday morning.
In a Facebook post, city officials said a safety perimeter has been established around the area. Nearby residents were evacuated until gas service was shut off at the hall. They have since returned to their homes.
The downtown area was closed to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Community members are urged to stay away from the downtown district until further notice to allow emergency responders and utility crews to work safely.
The City provided a list of what residents need to know:
• Avoid the downtown area until the closure is lifted
• Follow all posted barricades and public safety instructions
• Monitor official City communication channels for updates
