UP residents named to state organizations

Governor Gretchen Whitmer

LANSING, MI— Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed two Upper Peninsula residents to a state commission and task force.

George Lindquist of Negaunee was appointed to the Natural Resources Commission. He’s a past president of Michigan United Conservation Clubs, and a member of U.P. Whitetails of Marquette County, the Big Bay Sportsmen’s Club, and the U.P. Sportsmen’s Alliance. 

He’s appointed as a Democrat for a term commencing January 1, 2027 and expiring December 31, 2030.

And Chris Ninomiya of Iron Mountain was appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect. He’s a judge of Michigan 41st Circuit Court. Ninomiya holds a Bachelor of Arts in pre-law studies from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor from the Wayne State University School of Law.

He’ll be reappointed to represent criminal court judges for a term commencing January 1, 2027 and expiring December 31, 2029. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
