(Marquette, MI) - A 1968 NMU alumna has been inducted into the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame for her role in revolutionizing women’s ski equipment.
U.P. native Jeannie Thoren was a member of the Junior National Ski team where she customized her gear to help perfect her skiing technique. She developed the “Thoren Theory” which was based on her motto that “women aren’t small men” to help women skiers improve their performance through equipment modification.
Thoren has also been inducted into the first Skiing Women Hall of Fame in 1995 and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2014. She has been named one of the most influential skiers by both SKI Magazine and Skiing Magazine. Thoren also earned a Distinguished Alumni Award from NMU in 2014.
