NMU hockey broadcast production wins award

Marquette, MI - Northern Michigan University’s hockey game video production crew has won a national award for their work. NMU’s submission of a five-minute clip of the end of an overtime game between the Wildcats and the Michigan Tech Huskies was awarded the outstanding live game production award in the Sports Video Group 2023 College Sports Media Awards.

The students’ live video work is featured on FloSports, which streams every home game. It is also used by the referees use for official reviews and as highlights and replays on the scoreboard in the Berry Events Center. NMU students run the cameras, graphics, audio and shading, which includes brightness and color monitoring. There are five student-operated cameras and two static cameras above the goalies at each end of the rink.

Hans Ahlström is the host of several programs including the daily musical variety show Weekday, the mostly straight ahead jazz show Night Studio, the self explanatory Blues Today, and the eclectic Sound Spectrum. You can also hear Hans as the local host of NPR's All Things Considered news magazine. He also helps manage Public Radio 90's web content, interviews local and visiting writers and artists, works with NMU student interns, and writes the occasional news story.
