Vinyl lovers, collectors, and crate diggers—clear your calendars. Over Independence Day weekend, the "Geoff and Jon Record Show" returns to Ore Dock Brewing Company in downtown Marquette for another multi-day celebration of music, memory, and media. From Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6, thousands of vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, posters, books, t-shirts, and other treasures will fill the brewery’s space, welcoming curious browsers and longtime collectors alike.

We caught up with Jon Teichman, co-organizer of the event alongside longtime collaborator Geoff Walker, to hear what’s in store. “This is our twelfth year doing this,” said Teichman. “We bring about 10,000 musical items—not just vinyl, but CDs, tapes, DVDs, posters—something for everybody. It’s really an intergenerational, interactive event that people of all ages can enjoy.”

The show’s timing over the Fourth of July weekend adds a uniquely festive atmosphere. “We get everyone from high school reunion-goers to out-of-town visitors—even wedding parties from Quebec,” Teichman shared. “It’s free, it’s inclusive, and there’s always something new in the bins.”

Listen to Teichman speak with Public Radio 90's Kurt Hauswirth about the show:

Beyond browsing, the weekend features live music, trivia, and even a surprise movie screening. Highlights include:

  • Jakey Thomas – Thursday at 3 PM
  • Lupine – Thursday at 8 PM
  • Rick Fink – Friday from 3–6 PM
  • Cabildo – Latin-infused performances Friday at 8 PM and Saturday at 3 PM
  • Charlie Mallard Band – Saturday night record release show (ticketed)
  • Pop Culture Trivia – Sunday at 2 PM, curated and hosted by Teichman

The atmosphere, as Jon describes it, is always welcoming. “Music’s playing, people are flipping through crates, talking, laughing. And any music you hear playing—there’s a good chance it’s for sale right there.”

Trades are welcome as well. “If you’ve got records you’re not listening to, bring them in early in the day. We’re always looking for clean, interesting media in any genre,” he said. For large collections, Jon invites folks to reach out in advance at (906) 373-6183.

The event is hosted in collaboration with the NMU Vinyl Record Club, with support from Vintage Vinyl Emporium, which will be closed during the event weekend but returns afterward at its usual location on Third Street.

Find more information about the record show at oredockbrewing.com or the Facebook event page. Teichman's Emporium store is online at mqtemp.com.

Kurt lives in Marquette with his family and can’t imagine living anywhere else. He loves music, games, jogging, being near water, and a fine cold brew coffee.
