The Marquette County String Orchestra Society is inviting community members to join a Christmas Carol String-Along on Saturday, December 20, from 3–4 p.m. at the Westwood Mall. The event follows the success of the recent Adult String Workshop, where returning players rediscovered the joy of making music together.
String teachers Janis Shier Peterson and Wendy Larson say the idea grew out of the enthusiasm participants showed during the workshop’s holiday tunes. The string-along is open to anyone who plays violin, viola, cello, or bass; whether they’re longtime musicians, adults picking up their instruments again, or students home for the season.
Players can request sheet music by email and will receive parts at various difficulty levels. Participants are asked to bring printed music, a stand, and their instruments. Volunteers will be on hand to help with tuning and setup, creating a friendly, low-pressure environment.
Public Radio 90's Kurt Hauswirth spoke with Larson and Peterson about the upcoming holiday string event:
MCSOS plans to continue building on this momentum with monthly meetups beginning in 2026. Anyone interested in joining the holiday event or learning more can contact mqtcountysos@gmail.com.
