We recently welcomed Rachael Grossman, the self-described "lead Nonna" and owner of Strega Nonna, to discuss the restaurant's upcoming summer collaboration benefiting WNMU Public Media. Located in an historic, delightfully whimsical 1800s building in downtown Negaunee, the eatery is hosting a special outdoor concert designed to bring the community together for a vital cause. Grossman, who consciously chooses the title "Nonna" over chef, highlighted that these fundraisers are essential to the restaurant's mission of injecting life, color, and community spirit into the local area.
The evening features legendary singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III, whose witty, sharp, and highly relatable storytelling style perfectly matches the public radio audience. Sharing the stage is up-and-coming Wisconsin native Ashlyn Roskowski, who will open the night with her own fresh, story-driven music. The headline booking came together seamlessly behind the scenes through a mutual radio connection, instantly turning a shared love for Wainwright's music into a reality for the Upper Peninsula venue.
Kurt Hauswirth spoke with Grossman and Roskowski about the event:
The benefit concert is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, 2026, on Strega Nonna’s outdoor patio.
Doors open at 6 pm with a dinner spread, and the show begins at 7 pm.
