MARQUETTE, MI— Northern Michigan University’s 8th president has died at the age of 101.

John X. Jamrich served from 1968 to 1983. He died Sunday in Savannah, Georgia.

NMU’s campus grew under Jamrich’s presidency, with the construction of Cohodas Hall, the Learning Resources Center, Jacobetti Skills Center, and PEIF. He lived to see the dedication of not one but two academic buildings named after him.

An obituary for Jamrich can be found on the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home website.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
