Northern student dies in Tennessee accident

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The NMU community is mourning the passing of a student.

Jackson Gervasio, 21, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan was killed in an accident in Knoxville, Tennessee on Saturday. He was a construction management major heading into his senior year.

During his time at NMU, Jackson was a member of the NMU Constructors student organization and volunteered at Women in Construction events. This summer, he was completing an internship with Kokosing Construction in Virginia.

His professors describe him as a “fantastic young adult, who was an energetic, fun-loving person who really enjoyed life.”

Northern will honor Jackson in the fall semester by lowering the NMU flag at a date of his family’s choosing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
