Tonya Darner leaving UPHS

MARQUETTE, MI— Market Chief Executive Officer of UPHS-Marquette and UPHS-Bell, Tonya Darner, is leaving her position.

Officials say she’s stepping down effective September 18.

Darner took over the lead role in December of 2023. Before that, she served as chief operating officer beginning in 2021.

UPHS released the following statement:

"UP Health System is actively working with hospital and division leadership to finalize interim leadership plans and ensure continuity throughout the transition. Our hospitals remain supported by experienced local leadership teams and focused on providing high quality care to the communities we serve. We expect to share additional information about leadership plans in the coming weeks."

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
