Dickinson County juvenile found safe

Norway, MI - A Norway-Vulcan student has been found safe after going missing after school on Friday. According to the Norway Police Department, it was reported to police that the 13-year old male juvenile ran north into the woods east of Upper Pine Road. State Police K-9 units and other local law enforcement departments searched the area without success. The search continued Saturday morning with additional help from several search and rescue units and an estimated 300 local residents. The juvenile was located at about 11am local time in the Vulcan area near St Barbara’s Church by a private drone operator. An off-duty Norway Police Department officer and the Michigan DNR were then able to locate the juvenile in Vulcan. He was taken to the staging area and returned to his family in good condition.

Norway PD and Norway Fire Department Search and Rescue were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Michigan DNR, Dickinson County S.D., Marinette County S.D., Menominee County S.D., Breiting Township Search and Rescue, Delta County Search and Rescue, Norway Vulcan Area Schools, Iron Mountain PD, North Alert, Red Cross, local businesses, and about 300 local volunteers.
