No foul play suspected in drowning near McLain State Park

Houghton County, MI – Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post are investigating a fatal drowning in Hancock Township. Officials say troopers were dispatched Wednesday at about 9:30am on a report of a deceased individual in the waters of Lake Superior near McLain State Park and the breakwall leading to the Keweenaw Waterway Upper Entrance Lighthouse. Divers from the Houghton County Sheriffs Office located the body of a 57-year old Hancock man, and the preliminary investigation indicates the drowning was accidental and occurred earlier the same morning. No foul play is suspected, and the incident remains under investigation.
MSP was assisted by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Coast Guard, and Mercy EMS.
