Senate hopeful releases fundraising report

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Republican Terri Lynn Land raised slightly more than $2 million in the first three months of her U.S. Senate run.

The former Michigan Secretary of State is waiting to file a detailed report for the third quarter due in a week. But roughly $1 million came from her pockets.

Land's campaign said Monday that she has no debt and fundraising is strong compared with other U.S. Senate campaigns across the country.

Land is the only Republican candidate. Democrat Gary Peters hasn't reported his quarterly haul after raising more than $1 million in the second quarter.

Democratic Sen. Carl Levin is retiring in 2014. Land says the seat is crucial if Republicans are going to win control of the Senate from Democrats.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
