WATERSMEET, MI-- Lt. General Jack Bergman, USMC (ret) of Watersmeet has turned in 2,000 petition signatures to run for the Republican nomination for Michigan’s First Congressional District of the U.S.
House.
Bergman turned in the maximum amount allowed from all 32 counties in the district.
He joins fellow Republicans Tom Casperson, a state senator, and Jason Allen, a former state senator, in the race for the nomination.
On the Democratic side, state Democratic Party Leader Lon Johnson and former Kalkaska County Sheriff Jerry Cannon have declared.
First District incumbent Dan Benishek announced he would not seek re-election in 2016.
The primary election is set for August 2, 2016.
