Rally at Marquette Planned Parenthood

MARQUETTE, MI--   Critics and supporters of Planned Parenthood squared off in rallies across the country Saturday—Marquette included—in response to the Trump administration’s proposal to defund the group.

More than 100 people held signs in support of birth control and health care for women at the Planned Parenthood building on Third Street.  A few opponents stood next door with anti-abortion signs. They said their tax dollars shouldn’t be used for something they are morally against.

Planned Parenthood receives Medicaid reimbursements for services like cancer screenings and STD testing for women who aren’t insured.  Federal law prohibits using tax dollars for abortions.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
