ANN ARBOR, MI (MPRN)-- Michigan’s two leading candidates for attorney general are spending more time debating whether to debate than actually debating the issues.
Several proposed debates between Republican Tom Leonard and Democrat Dana Nessel have fallen through over who, if anyone, should share the stage with them.
Nessel takes exception with the Leonard campaign’s insistence on including independent candidate Chris Graveline.
“The way I’ve seen debates traditionally done, if you’re not polling at a certain level, you’re not considered viable and you’re just taking up the oxygen in a debate, where really, we should be hearing from people who actually have a chance of being seated in that office,” she says.
Leonard’s campaign accuses Nessel of “playing games.”
