Whitmer heads to Washington this week

WASHINGTON, D.C. (MPRN)--   Michigan governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer is set to meet with President Trump at the White House Thursday.

Whitmer will join a bi-partisan group of incoming governors hoping to discuss their priorities for the coming year with the President.

A spokesperson for Whitmer says the Governor-elect wants to weigh-in on trade policy, promoting affordable health care and protecting the Great Lakes.

Whitmer rarely mentioned Trump by name on the campaign trail, but still criticized much of his agenda and frequently said Michigan was in the business of building bridges, rather than walls that create division.

By contrast, Whitmer’s Republican opponent—Attorney General Bill Schuette—spent the campaign touting his endorsements from both Trump and Vice President Pence.
