MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Committee is angering citizens for canceling four public meetings—including one in Marquette.
The group charged with redrawing the state’s district maps says it needs more time to focus on the task. The Committee voted 11-2 last Friday to cancel four of its 9 public hearings this month. It also decided to shorten public comment from two minutes to just one.
The MICRC cites delays in receiving 2020 Census Data for moving an initial deadline for adopting final maps from November 1 to November 5. The deadline to approve the maps is December 30.
