Group threatens to recall lawmakers who support gun reform bills

ANN ARBOR, MI (MPRN)— A gun rights group says state lawmakers could face recall campaigns if they approve new legislation on guns.

After last week’s fatal mass shooting at Michigan State University, Democrats in the state senate introduced a package of gun legislation. Among other things, the bills would require universal criminal background checks and create a red flag law.

Brenden Boudreau is the executive director of the group Great Lakes Gun Rights.

“If they think they’re going to be able to quietly pass these bills, without repercussions, I think they’re fooling themselves,” he says.

Boudreau promises to launch recall campaigns against any vulnerable lawmaker who support the gun bills.

The state House is expected to introduce gun legislation soon.

A spokeswoman for State House Speaker Joe Tate says the vast majority of Michiganders support commonsense gun reforms.
