Lt. Gov. Gilchrist holds meet-and-greet in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI— Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist officially kicked off his campaign for governor in Negaunee over the weekend.

He held a meet-and-greet at Strega Nona to see what was on people’s minds.

The Democrat was the latest to throw his hat into the ring for governor. He joins Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson on the Democratic ticket.

Former Detroit mayor Mike Duggan is running as an independent.

Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt and U.S. Representative John James are on the ballot as Republicans.

Current Governor Gretchen Whitmer cannot run again due to term limits.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
