McBroom seeks exemption for Jacobetti Home for Veterans

Sep 12, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C.--   State Senator Ed McBroom is asking for an exemption for the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans so it can continue to receive services from Medicare and Medicaid.

The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services require skilled nursing facilities like Jacobetti to equip each resident room with its own bathroom. Currently, 105 of the 186 beds at the facility, all occupied by men, do not meet CMS certification requirements because the bathroom facilities are shared by two residents.

McBroom is asking CMS to approve a variance, or exception, from federal regulations to provide shared bathrooms. He says the variance could potentially allow more veterans eligible for Medicare or Medicaid benefits to seek placement at the home.
