Names released in Escanaba murder

ESCANABA, MI--   Police have released the name of the suspect and victim in an Escanaba homicide.

Escanaba Public safety was called early Wednesday morning to 206 Stephenson Avenue and found the female victim with a kitchen knife in her throat.  She’s been identified as Heather Batchelor, 32, the suspect’s wife and mother of two children.

Kallay Batchelor has been arraigned and charged with open murder/homicide, punishable by up to life in prison.  He remains lodged in the Delta County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is set for September 12.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
