Police hope to "Jumpstart a Heart" with new equipment

MARQUETTE, MI--   Two Marquette County groups have joined forces to raise money for automatic external defibrillators.

Through “Jumpstart a Heart,” the Marquette County Law Enforcement Administrators Association and Community Foundation of Marquette County are looking to raise $81,454. The money will be used to replace 38 AED units that serve area law enforcement.

Foundation CEO Zosia Eppensteiner says law enforcement is often first on the scene of an emergency—before medical personnel—and the last time the equipment was replaced was 15 to 20 years ago.

“With technology changing it’s to a point where some of it can’t be charged, some of it doesn’t connect properly to EMS equipment. So that, you know, is a matter of life and death,” she says.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Jumpstart a Heart. Residents can also send a check to the Foundation or give on its website, www.cfofmc.org.

Officials are hoping to meet their goal by the end of September.
