Police looking for witnesses to Chocolay accident

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Chocolay Police Department is asking those who may have seen a two-vehicle accident near the Welcome Center Wednesday to contact officers.

The crash happened around 4:20 p.m. on US-41 South. Both vehicles were northbound when a white car tried to merge from the passing lane into the right lane. The car struck a red truck, lost control, crossed all five lanes of traffic, and left the roadway. The vehicle then hit a guide wire from an electric pole. The wire contacted power lines and started a grass fire. The white car finally stopped after it hit several trees.

Both drivers were checked out at the scene by UPHS EMS.

Police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone who saw the accident or anything prior to the accident to call the Chocolay Township Police Department at 249-4040.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
