Vehicle theft suspect awaiting court

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI--   A suspect awaits arraignment on charges he stole a vehicle from Chocolay Township.  

Friday around 8 a.m. Township Police were called to a residence on M-28 on a report that a red Jeep Grand Cherokee had been taken without permission. 

Chocolay officers spotted the vehicle northbound on Division Street and attempted to stop the jeep, but the driver continued on to Genessee and Champion streets.  Police say while the suspect didn’t speed up, he still refused to pull over.

Officers finally blocked the jeep and ordered the driver out, but he failed to comply.  He was tased and taken into custody. 

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending arraignment. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
